The Lion King Costume Series: Simba

The Lion King Costume Series: Simba

Hey there, fellow crafty parents! If you’re on the hunt for a super cute, comfy, and easy-to-make costume for your little one, you’re in luck! Today, I’m thrilled to share with you a no-sew costume tutorial that’s perfect for bringing the beloved character of “kid Simba” from The Lion King to life. The best part? We’re using the coziest clothes from Primary.com as our base, so your little cub will be roaring in comfort.

Gathering Your Supplies

First things first, let’s talk about what you’ll need for this adorable Simba costume. The list is wonderfully simple:

  • A long sleeve PJ top in sunshine yellow
  • Matching PJ pants in sunshine yellow
  • Felt in brown, black, and gold/yellow
  • A headband
  • Chenille stems (also known as pipe cleaners)
  • Fabric glue

That’s it! You can find the PJ set on Primary.com, which is my go-to for comfy basics. As for the rest of the supplies, craft stores like Hobby Lobby, Michaels, or Amazon have you covered. Walmart might be hit or miss, but it’s worth a look!

Crafting Simba’s Ears

For the ears, I actually repurposed the ones I made for a baby Simba costume. They fit better now that my little one’s head has grown! To hide the hot glue and give them a polished look, consider adding a strip of felt along the top. These were my first attempt at crafting ears, so they’re not perfect, but they’re made with love.

A Little Heads Up

Just a friendly word of caution: don’t be surprised if your toddler decides they’re done wearing the ears after a short while. It’s all part of the costume adventure with little ones!

Adding the Finishing Touches

To bring the costume together, I cut out a circle of yellow felt for the belly and added some cute paw prints to the cuffs for that extra touch of detail. It’s simple, but it gets the point across, don’t you think?

For the tail, just attach a strip of felt to the back of the pants with fabric glue. And if you’re feeling extra creative, you can paint on some whiskers or add other facial details to your child’s face for an added effect.

Shoe or No Shoe?

I chose to go shoeless for my little Simba, but a pair of yellow slippers could add a cozy and cute final touch to the outfit.

Creating this Simba costume has been such a fun project, and I hope it brings a smile to your face and sparks some creativity for your next costume adventure. Remember, it’s all about making memories and having fun, so don’t sweat the small stuff. Happy crafting!
