Let me preface this post by saying that not all of my days are productive. I frequently have days where I feel like I didn’t get hardly anything done. That is OKAY. I have come to accept that not every day will be a winner. Some days we don’t get up and start our day until after 10, and then we sit around and watch TV or play all day.
The day I’m documenting for you now is one in which I felt motivated and then acted on that feeling!
This post is sponsored by Superfood Tabs. All opinions are my own!
I typically start my day with two cups of coffee. I like to wake up slow and enjoy my coffee as long as I can. Most days that means two cups. I usually am not very hungry in the morning so I’ll have a small bowl of cereal or a breakfast bar. Nothing big.
Superfood Tabs sent me a box of their fizzy tablets to try out, so I have been adding that to my routine this month! When I am disciplined enough to remember my superfoods, I feel more productive!
The Superfoods tablets can do so much for you if you use them regularly! An added side effect that I love is the boost of energy! Goodness knows I need all of that I can get!
I was skeptical at first of their weight loss/detox claims, as I’m not really looking to drop a ton of weight fast or ‘detox’ anything, since I have organs that do that. The tablets have a ton of superfoods packed inside:
Since I’ve been staying home, it’s so hard for me to stick to eating all the healthy, balanced meals I SHOULD be eating. My balance has been a bit tipped to the unhealthy side and I knew I needed to start adding variety and healthy stuff back in. I try to drink one 20oz cup of water with a Superfood tab per day OR I will make something in my juicer if I have fresh fruits and veggies on hand.
Be warned for either drink…the burst of healthy detoxifying ingredients is great but don’t be too far from a bathroom! The tube says you can use multiple tabs a day, but since I’m still nursing I stick to just one in the morning after Finley has nursed.
I have struggled a bit with the taste, to be completely transparent, but a lot of people love how it tastes! I read on their website that you can add ice, sparkling water, or fruit for some fun ways to enhance the flavor and it really does work! I’ve been adding frozen strawberries after the tablet dissolves and it has helped a ton. Plus, infusing fruit in your water is good for you too!
After my morning ‘breakfast’ routine, we try to all get dressed. Even when we aren’t going anywhere, getting dressed just makes it feel more like the day has begun.
Sometimes I’ll play a game of hide and seek, charades, or dress up with Leopold and Finley while we are getting ready and that make the next portion of the day a bit easier.
The kids are pretty good at entertaining themselves as long as I’ve given them some attention first thing! I’ll put some music on for them and then they get to playing and I get to cleaning.
Some chores I do to make my day feel more productive:
-Dishes. My absolute least favorite chore! I try to make sure the sink is completely empty at least once a day. It’s been a tricky habit to make but I’ve finally gotten to the point where I will start a load of dishes every night.
–Laundry. Despite rarely going out, the laundry is always there waiting. This is the chore I like the best…I don’t know why! I try to stick to doing laundry on Wednesdays and Sundays only but sometimes I need to add in a day. If we have wet clothes that need to get cleaned or if I need to wash bedding then I’ll add in another day.
–Vacuuming. I enjoy vacuuming too but we have a big split level house, so I usually only get around to vacuuming one level per day. I usually do the main/living room area every other day, the upstairs about every 3 or 4 days, and the downstairs/office once a week.
–Dinner. Nothing makes me feel more productive than making sure dinner is taken care of before 5pm. My husband gets home around 6:30 and is usually starving by that time. I hate it when 4 or 5pm rolls around and I realize I have no clue what my plan for dinner is. The best days include a hearty crock pot meal that is ‘done’ being prepped before quiet time!
Some bonus items on my productivity checklist are…
–A shower!! I hate taking time out to shower, until I’m IN the shower. Then I really enjoy it. I usually have good intentions of showering at night and then decide to put it off, so a shower during quiet time is usually my best bet.
–Tidying up. Don’t you sometimes feel like you are ALWAYS picking up after people/yourself? I have tried to start grabbing something to tidy up every time I leave a room. Things have such a way of migrating from one room to another around here, and with so many stairs to go up and down, it can be all too easy to let the ‘lazy’ take over.
–Dusting. This is something I definitely don’t do enough of, but when I do it I am so proud of myself and the house feels so much more clean. Especially if I get around to dusting the fan blades or the blinds!
–Dog grooming. Our goldendoodle sometimes gets so shaggy that he ‘molts’ and his hair just sheds off in clumps. That’s how I know it’s time to trim him up! This can take a few hours or days because our clippers aren’t the best. When I can get him all cleaned up or bathed I feel so productive!
–Dedicated play time. As much as I want to be that parent that just LOVES to play with her kids, I am not. I like to guide their play time, I like to watch them play and interact with them while they do. I try to be hands on. But nothing makes me feel like I could fall asleep on the spot more than sitting down to play with them. It’s awful but it is what it is. I don’t mind crafts so much but then the clean up and set up are often not worth the work!! I try to be engaged with them as much as possible though and on the days when I can really focus and play, I feel so much better about myself as a mom.
–Hobbies. I have a few hobbies that I never really get around to, so when I do make time for them it makes me feel extra productive! Some of my favorites are reading, needle felting, watercolor paints, and watching Netflix while eating a snack. Yes, that’s a hobby.
–WORKING. The last thing on my list should probably be the first. Since my son’s daycare shut down and we are now home all the time, it’s so hard for me to make time to do any blogging or work on my other side jobs. I have to be the perfect amount of motivated, with a solid block of time to be able to get in the right headspace. I can’t operate in 10-15 minute chunks, and I struggle to work while my kids are in the same space. Mostly because of my super chatty 4 year old, but the 20 month old who demands a boob any time I sit down isn’t easy to handle either.
Night time is tricky too. They go to bed around 7:30 but I’m usually still fighting with them to get to sleep by 9:30! Then it’s time to clean up from dinner, feed our pet gecko and the dog, prep coffee and lunches for the next day…by the time I’m done with all that, I just want to go to bed!
If I can accomplish more than 2 or 3 things on these lists, I feel like I’ve had a truly productive day. But again, I don’t beat myself up if I had an off day, or just wanted to be lazy. It’s okay!
Every night before bed I follow up my morning self care (superfood drink/juice/coffee) with a bedtime care routine. I try to remember my skincare routine (usually just a quick wipe down) and I’ve been taking vitamin C and Zinc every night too. And remember to DRINK LOTS OF WATER.
