My son is four years old, and I feel like Christmas is REALLY starting to get fun. I mean, it’s always been fun, but he really gets it now, you know? I’m so excited about gift giving this year, and watching his little face light up will be the BEST. Heck, I’m excited to use a few of his gifts.
I loved crafting this gift guide for you. These are kind of my adult version of circling toys in a catalogue! I’m just as bad as my son when it comes to wanting all the toys!
The following gift guide is a mix of items I got specifically for the purposes of this post (gifted), some I’ve bought on my own, and some I WANT to buy. This year’s list is geared toward children ages 4-6, but a lot of the items could also work for older or younger children.
We haven’t exactly decided how we are going about this “Santa” thing, but I’m thinking Santa will bring my kids just a few smaller gifts and mom and dad will supply the “big” gifts. I don’t want Santa getting all my credit! I believed in Santa growing up and remember seeing “Stocking stuffers” on my mom’s shopping list as a little girl. That is when the first seed of doubt was placed, but I pretended to believe all the way until I was grown. My mom knew I was full of it, but she always said, when I stop believing, he stops coming. I wasn’t going to let that happen!
Although I was gifted some of these items to review, it does not sway my opinion or statements about them! You will see many Amazon links for your convenience in this post. While I will earn a VERY small commission if you shop through these links, I put them there to make it easy for you to shop what you see!
For even more inspiration, check out my gift guides from the last two years: Gifts for babies starting solids, gifts for toddlers, another one for toddlers, gifts for babies, another one for babies, gifts for moms, and gifts for dads.
I bought one of these the other day for our “Big gift”. Glad I did, as just two days later they COMPLETELY sold out! I have heard so many great things about the nugget and while it’s a tad on the pricey side, I’ve been told it’s well worth it. I am not sure how I’m going to hide this until the big day, but I can’t WAIT until Christmas now! Join the Nugget Chatter and BST Group on Facebook if you need some convincing!
Lakeshore’s Tree Building Set
This tree building set is so much fun! The pieces are large and easy to handle, and they snap in and out of the pegs easily. My son has so much fun playing and using his imagination with this set! The dolls come separately but would make a great addition to the stockings! I also love that there aren’t any small pieces for the younger siblings to put in their mouths.
Lakeshore’s Gear Bot
This gear bot is an absolute blast for the little engineers in your family! It’s a great learning tool, as you have to make sure the gears are perfectly aligned so that the gear bot will roll around with ease. There are a ton of different ways to play with this bot! Once you build it, you use the remote control to race it around the room!
Colorform’s Silly Faces Game
I’m really excited to give this to my son for Christmas. I’ve managed to keep it hidden so far! He absolutely loves Charlie’s Colorforms City on Netflix, and is the master of making silly faces so this game will be perfect for him!
We got these books last year, and while they are still a little advanced for Leopold, the kids who like to color and write would have a blast with these! My son just isn’t into doodling quite yet. These would be great stocking stuffers and are perfect for on the go or taking to restaurants! They are from Clever Publishing.
Adventure Force Dino Garage
I don’t usually buy my son HUGE toys like this, but we did a collaboration with Adventure Force and we bought this. It’s truly HUGE but it fits just fine in his room, and I like that it’s tall, rather than wide and long. He loves playing with this and it keeps his occupied in his room pretty often! It’s really a pretty cool track!
This new take on a classic game is going to be so much fun to play with! It comes with three double sided cards, or games, that you slide in at the top. I was hesitant as to whether Leopold would like this, until we visited a friend who had something similar and he LOVED IT. Now I think he will be very entertained by this!
I saw my son playing with these at his school one day and he was doing SO well! I thought it would be a great quiet time activity to do at home, so when I found this set on OrientalTrading.com I snatched it up!! These are great learning tools for preschoolers!
These suction cup building toys are an absolute blast. You can build something or just play around with them, but they are definitely satisfying and a great sensory type toy. You can stick them to each other or to other things! I bought this from Oriental Trading as well. Did you know they have WAY more than just party supplies and small trinkets? I had no idea until recently!
I’ve seen a lot of my friends’ kids trying this out and it looks like so much fun! We will be getting some to try out here soon and I can’t wait! You can fill up the bath tub with it or one of their little inflatable slime pools. ZimpliKids has a ton of neat looking products!
Soap Making Kit
We did a review of this soap making kit a couple months ago and Leopold and I had a blast creating soaps together! We melted plain colored wax, mixed in color, smells, glitter, and even things like lavender to make some truly unique and fun soaps.
Olaf Follow Me Friend
The perfect toy for any Frozen fanatic! Olaf rolls around, talks, sings, and will follow the light on the magic snowflake wand!
Hefty Petz Blanket
If your child has special sensory needs, or trouble sleeping, this kids weighted blanket will be perfect for them! Leopold chose the unicorn and sleeps with it every night! It helps him feel secure and “snug as a bug”.
Name Blanket from Highway 3
I admired these personalized blankets from Highway 3 for a long time before we got these!! We absolutely love these soft and snuggly blankets and will for years to come.
Games and Puzzles
I love having plenty of non TV options around for my son to play with. He has a lot of Melissa and Doug puzzles to choose from. Games like Pop the Pig, Mr. Bucket, Let’s Go Fishing, and Pop Rocket are a few of his favorites. We were sent these card games from Hoyle and I know Leopold will love playing these with our family! Both teach important skills like empathy, self awareness, and social skills (to name a few) while having fun!
My kids love open ended toys like this one and I love toys that encourage imaginative play! My kids would have hours of fun with this kind of toy and it’s on my list for that reason!
This awesome piano was Leopold’s big birthday gift! He and Finley love to play piano and sing to put on concerts for us. Schoenhut has a plethora of different pianos to choose from for the little musician in your family. Many are much smaller than the one pictured here, and less “fancy”, but they are all very cool!
Another open ended toy, I had so much fun with these as a high schooler so imagine how much more fun they are for kids! We have the minis and my kids love playing with those!
