Pumba’s costume surprised me and turned out SUPER cute. I think it’s one of my favorites for Leopold! His favorite is still Rafiki because he isn’t crazy about wearing the headbands, but I seriously love this Pumba costume.
Thanks to Primary.com for providing these awesome basics that sparked my imagination! I was given the clothes for free but that does not change my opinion of the brand!

One of the best things about this costume was how EASY it was to create. The ears are probably what took the most effort and even they were pretty easy.

Pumba’s ears were the only ones in this series that I didn’t create pipe cleaner ‘skeleton’s’ for. They stand up really well on their own. I just cut out the shape of his ear with red felt, a smaller swatch with pink, put some hot glue on the bottom (skinny) part, and then pinched it together until it dried. I added a strip of red felt to the headband with hot glue and then just glued the base of the ear to that felt strip.
The felt strip along the headband helped make it feel more cohesive and it also made a wider base for the ears to hold on to when I glued those.

The pieces I chose for this outfit from Primary were red leggings and a red long sleeved top. I added some black socks from the baby section at Walmart (2 for $1.67) to serve as the hooves.
Do what I did and pull up an image of Pumba on your phone, and use that as a guide when you’re making the ears and the tail! Cut the tail in an L shape just like Pumba’s tail. I could have made it more realistic by rounding it out and having it hang off his pants but instead I glued the entire thing to his pants. To finish I added a teardrop shaped tuft of faux fur and I LOVE the result.

I also added a simple rectangle of faux fur down his back just like Pumba has in the cartoon. If you figure out how to mimic his tusks in a children’s costume, please let me know in the comments!
