Starting Over: My Journey to Fitness at Burn Bootcamp

Around Town· Mom Life

Many of you know, I started working out in December and came SO close to my 3 month term but ended up quitting on myself for many reasons which you can read about here.

This time I’m in it to win it! I’m SO excited to be partnering with Burn Bootcamp Lake Murray for the next 6 months! This experience is unlike any I’ve had before.

I’ve been going every weekday for the last week (since I started) and I feel like this is a habit I can keep up with ease. It’s only about 8-10 minutes from my house, so it’s not hard for me to get all of us out the door and to the gym on time every day.

There are certain class times and four of them include childcare (8:30, 9:30, 4:30 and 5:30). The childcare teacher is the same each time and is a retired pediatrician so I feel really good about handing over my kids each day. Finley is not a fan of new people and places (I really don’t know how that happened) so I like knowing that after a while, this will be normal and comfortable for her.

Last week on my first day at Burn, Finley SCREAMED the entire time. It was stressful for me not only to hear her crying but to think about the poor teacher having to deal with her and also mind all the other kids. People noted my anxieties and everyone assured me that it was going to be OKAY. I was told that this 45 minutes is my time to get my workout in and not to worry about the kids for a while. They got this. Any now, a week later, Finley still cries a little bit but she also plays and interacts with the other children. So we aren’t there yet but PROGRESS.

I love the classes so much. Everyone I have met so far is super nice and welcoming and the vibe is very motivating. There are plenty of high fives and asking questions is completely welcome if you aren’t sure of a workout or if you think you are doing it wrong.

Every day at Burn is something different. Legs, arms, core, cardio, strength, you name it, it’s covered. While we focus on one thing each session, I still feel like I get a pretty solid full body workout in the 45 minutes I’m there. We warm up before each Burn workout and we cool down and stretch at the end, which I think is definitely the reason I’m not majorly sore all the time.

There have been two dress up days so far and I’m HERE FOR IT. I love dressing up and getting into the spirit of theme days so this is definitely my kind of place! I love the Burn community because they lift each other up and even get together outside of the classes. There are play dates and walks on the Dam and all sorts of things that I can’t wait to join in on!

Another motivating factor is that while there are women of all different shapes and sizes at Burn, these ladies put in the work and they look GOOD! I can tell they are strong and getting more fit every day!

I’m already planning ways to save my money so that when my 6 months is up I can continue going to Burn. I’m a week in and I’m already addicted!

If you are in the Lake Murray/Irmo area you should join me sometime and see what I’m so excited about! I don’t get anything out of you coming with me, I just want to share the love! Burn offers a free 14 day trial, which is a ton of time to see if you like it!

I hope to see many more shows with him as he gets older! He was a little "over it" right before intermission, but after a little break he really enjoyed the second act. I was super impressed with the whole thing! Plus, I finally got to meet a lot of the @cscmommybloggertribe members!

I don't usually buy clothes for myself and especially not when it's over $50 😅 but this is WORTH IT. It's got so many pockets and it's so comfy and it's definitely my new weekend uniform for the foreseeable future.🌸🏵💐🌿🌻

I love taking allllll the photos when we go camping- it helps me remember all the sweet moments and eventually I forget the stressful bits, or setting up camp and breaking it down by myself, or whining and complaining 😅. I'm trying to get the kids more used to helping with the setup but it's not without a bit of "mooOooMm whyyyy" from them 🙄😂.

Do you drink ACV?? I started drinking this daily a Do you drink ACV?? I started drinking this daily after I heard a woman on the podcast I listen to (Solo cleaning school) say she drank this every day and never got sick. I know the odds are against me with 2 kids, but I've heard so many good things about Apple cider vinegar, I'm trying it! So far so good! It's hard to pinpoint exactly what I'm doing that's making me feel good- working out, vitamins, water, ACV, etc, but I'm sure it's a solid combo of a few of those 😝. Self care is fun!
