What?!?! THIRTY ONE weeks?!
It feels like this pregnancy is going fast and slow all at the same time. Maybe it’s the weeks where I’m full of energy and going to play dates every day when it goes fast, and the weeks when we stay home all day go slow! I’m happy that I finally feel good again (it felt like forever that I felt ‘meh’). I even have an appetite most days!
I do still have to make myself eat most days but things have seriously improved. For instance, today for lunch I ate only crackers and with pepper jack cheese. Not a ton of food, and not super balanced, but boy were they delicious!
Most afternoons after ‘quiet time’ I try to whip up a smoothie for Leopold and I to share. Lately I’ve been using whatever fruit I can find, so if we have bananas or anything fresh, I’ll add that. I keep a lot of fruit in the freezer for smoothies so I’ve been doing pineapple/mango/berry smoothies with spinach, chia seeds, oats, cinnamon, and either milk or juice and water. I’d love to add a little protein powder on the days when I just don’t want to eat other things, but I’m not sure where to start!
We went blueberry picking a couple of weeks ago so lately my favorite night time snack has been frozen blueberries with frozen whipped cream, walnuts, and a few mini chocolate chips. SO yummy and it doesn’t make me feel totally guilty like ice cream does.
I do eat a lot more fruit with this pregnancy. I wonder if it has to do with feeding Leopold more fruit, or my sweet cravings, or summertime? The other day I realized I had a banana for breakfast, apple and peanut butter at lunch, a smoothie for snack, and blueberries after dinner. I don’t usually go that crazy because…well…too much of a good thing, right?
This week we have tried a new schedule in our house. It’s terrifying. This week we have stopped enforcing nap time.
For the last couple of weeks, Leopold has been going to sleep later and later. He would still nap in the afternoon but then he would get put to bed around 7:30-8ish (most nights) and take 3-4 hours to fall asleep. I’m sure part of it was him realizing he could get out of his bed! He kept running into my room for little silly things.
We decided to implement ‘quiet time’ where he has to go sit in his bed with the lights off (I open his curtains a little bit for some extra natural light). I started having him go lay down about an hour earlier than his usual nap time. I give him some books, his water, and he can play with his stuffed toys. This way, if he is so tired and needs to sleep or rest, he is able to and in the right place with the proper atmosphere.
So far though, he will just talk and play with his animals and read for about an hour, and then I let him get up (unless he’s happily playing). He does pretty well but I’m sill sad to lose 2 hours of uninterrupted nap time!
With those changes in place, we have been putting him to bed as usual between 7:30-8 and he goes right to sleep without a peep. I dare say it’s almost worth it! Then he will wake up in the morning around 7:30-8:30am.
Baby is getting stronger and likely bulking up a bit! I am feeling her move more every day and can see it on the outside a lot too. A mom in my ‘due date group’ on Facebook had her baby boy this past week and it’s crazy to see what mine might look like at this point…and to know that she would probably be fine if she was born now. He is in the NICU of course but no serious complications, thank goodness!
I definitely get tired a lot faster and I am still peeing all the time…but nothing crazy unusual. I swear I hit a mid-day slump right around 1-2pm and don’t know if I’ll make it without a nap!! The smoothies seem to have helped me get over that, too.
[Everything above this point was written at 30 weeks, I am now 31 weeks]
Today was my 31 week midwife appointment to check on baby! Leopold got to push the button to turn on the doppler and he was pretty proud of that. He’s been playing with his own stethoscope all evening listening to all of our heartbeats!
Baby is growing right on track, all of my tests are coming back healthy and normal, and I’ve even LOST weight. A month ago when I got weighed, I hadn’t gained any weight my entire pregnancy (according to the charts…I’m sure I’ve fluctuated). Two weeks ago, I’d gained 5 pounds. Today I’d lost 3 of those pounds!
BUT we have been walking every evening and I’ve gone to the zoo a ton in the past couple of weeks. Our A/C keeps going out and I sweat and drink a lot of water. It’s not like I’m starving myself!
Finley was wiggling around a ton last night so I had James put his hand on my belly to feel her. I just think it’s SO cool! He held it there for a while then pulled away. When I told him he was missing it, he said he thought it was kind of weird and that he would just wait and feel her move on the outside (LOL…men).
I really don’t feel like my belly has gotten very big this time. I really thought it would be a lot bigger, being the second pregnancy…but not really!
Her room is all done and I had my first (of two) sprinkle showers this week and got a few diapers and wipes (which really is all we need for her now). It’s getting close and I think we are getting excited to meet this little lady!
How far along? 31 weeks
Total weight gain/loss: Gained two pounds since my starting weight
Maternity clothes? Yep! T-shirt dresses or maternity shorts with t-shirts is my entire wardrobe these days!
Stretch marks? I’ve got a few bumps and lines on my belly but nothing too crazy
Sleep: It was getting more tricky, then I got a pregnancy pillow from Pharmedoc…now it’s much more comfortable! I still get up to pee all the time.
Best moment this week: Announcing her name and revealing her room were pretty exciting! Grab bag sale with my mother in law at a consignment store, and lots of snuggles with my big boy while watching Pokemon.
Name: Finley Piper
Movement: Getting wild in there!! Especially when I’m in bed lying on my side.
Food cravings: Sweets, fruit, cheeses
Anything making you queasy or sick: The thought of having to cook dinner. I’m not a fan of meats but I can eat them in small doses and cook them.
Belly Button in or out? In, but getting a lot more shallow!
Wedding rings on or off? Still on!!!
Happy or Moody most of the time: Pretty happy but with low patience most of the time. I’m getting to the point where I can flip over to incredibly irritable really quickly, too.
Things I’ve gotten for baby so far: SO MANY THINGS. ALL OF THE THINGS.
Also…can I get a high 5 for actually getting photos EVERY SINGLE WEEK so far?!?! I do dare say my face looks thinner now than back in the beginning!!! Could just be that I’ve finally trained my husband on how to take a photo!
