Dear makers of baby wipes everywhere,
Listen, I know you mean well when you make scented baby wipes. I get it…the task of changing diapers is smelly enough as it is. Why not lighten things up? Who doesn’t love a fresh smelling baby?
But it’s getting a little out of control.
All of a sudden, I’m repulsed by smells that are supposed to be calming, or refreshing!
These days, when I catch a whiff of lavender, instead of being relaxed, I think about poop. I can’t drink cucumber water anymore because for some strange reason, I feel like I’m drinking toilet water. I can’t use aloe anything without picturing wiping someone’s butt.
If you associate a good smell with a bad smell for long enough, it doesn’t smell as good anymore! I’ve been using some really nice smelling wipes lately…white tea and lavender or some nonsense. At first I would smell the wipe and think ‘oh yeah, this is good stuff!’ Now if I smell them, I just think about poop.
It’s very similar to finding a very nice smelling air freshener for your bathroom.
At first it’s nice to walk in and smell apple cinnamon or clean laundry in the atmosphere. But after a few trips to the toilet, that smell isn’t so nice anymore. Suddenly, when you walk into the room and smell that faux apple cinnamon scent…you know something ugly just went down. Down the toilet that is…
You’re right, I don’t have to buy the scented stuff. But some people just never learn. Maybe if I keep changing them up it won’t be so bad. Can’t you just keep it simple? Just ‘baby wipe’ scented? That way there is only one smell other than straight up poop that I associate so heavily with poop.
