I found ‘Animals Under the Bed’ through a fellow blogger, and instantly fell in love with the colors and illustrations.
When I reached out to Meg about doing a book review, she was super sweet and quick to send us one of her beautiful books.
First, let me say that her last name “Smiley” is too perfect for a children’s author! It absolutely suits her style and how this book will make you feel when you read it.
Leopold loves animals more than anything at this point in his life, so this book is absolutely perfect for him.
As you read through the book, you learn about the different stuffed animals that live under the bed. They each have different personalities and little quirks, but they are all friendly and kind.
It’s a great companion book if your child has started worrying about ‘monsters’ or sounds they hear at night. You can bring out this book and assure them that nothing in their room is there to hurt them!
Or as the song goes…“There are no monsters that live in our house, it’s only me and my family that live in our house! There are no monsters that live here.” -Little Baby Bum
I must say, I’m also pretty stoked that Meg autographed her book for us! I’m sure she will go far and it’s so cool to have a signed copy!
For a while, I was really into practicing watercolors. I know it’s not easy to make pictures as beautiful as the ones in this book! While I may not be a pro at it, I love practicing. It’s so relaxing to watch the paint spread out and create beautiful designs.
Leopold recently found my water color paints (I just bought a cheap set from Michael’s). Since they aren’t fancy or expensive paints, I decided to let him create his own art! We love painting around here, and I am trying to find time to work more of it into our day.
After we received Meg’s book, I knew it was the perfect time to let Leopold try his hand at watercolors. Maybe one day he will be as talented as Meg!
Since we aren’t ready to paint actual animals, I decided to create some pages of my own. I chose two animals from the book and let him paint the first letter of their name. Super simple…not exactly pretty…but more than just a blank page.
I’d like to encourage you all to pull out some paint and paper and get your child’s creative juices flowing! I know it’s messy, but messes make memories! Who knows, they may create something some abstract and fun, you can use it as decor in your home!
I will be giving a copy of “Animals Under the Bed” to one lucky reader! To win, you’re going to have to get your hands dirty! Have your child paint a picture. If you have a little baby, you can do hand/footprint art, or let them finger paint! There are a lot of great recipes out there for paints made from yogurt, etc for babies that like to put everything in their mouth. If your tot is bigger, try something that is more on their level!
Contest will run from January 12th-19th (2018). Winner will be announced January 20th!
It can be a picture of anything, and doesn’t have to be done any certain way. Just get out there and create!
Once your child’s masterpiece is finished, post it to your stories on Instagram! Tag Little Prince Leopold and Phigment Design Studio, and don’t forget to follow us both! I’ll collect all the entries and let Leopold choose the winner from a hat. Good luck and happy painting!
Read to your children! It’s so important and such a special bonding experience. I absolutely love how much Leopold loves books. I’ve been reading to him since he was in the womb! I try really hard to never say no to him when he asks me to read to him. Of course, after the 6th time reading the same book, I might redirect his attention. I’m only human.
