Mom Boss Monday: Invitations by The Little Paperie

Mom Boss Monday

Happy Monday Folks! Is is starting to feel like fall where you live? We have had this AMAZING breeze blowing through here the past couple of days and it makes fall feel SO close even though I know we probably have at least two months before things start to cool down any.
I’m excited to have another awesome mama to feature this week for Mom Boss Monday! Her name is Rita and she sells invitations on Etsy. Can you guess how I found her? That’s right…my tiny baby turns two next month and I had to find the perfect invitation to match his animal party! Out of all the animal themed invitations on Etsy, hers stood out to me the most. I’m really into water color lately which make these invites that much cuter! Rita was super sweet and easy to work with and she got my invitations to me so fast! Definitely check her page out if you are in the market for any sort of invitations!

Tell me a little bit about what you sell:

I sell invitations and party co-ordinates for kids birthdays, baptisms/christenings, baby showers and bridal showers. One day I would like to design wedding invitations, however, I wouldn’t start that until my son starts kindergarten and I have some more time to dedicate to wedding designs and to brides! I had 18 proofs for my wedding invitation, so for now I definitely don’t have the time to deal with that.

How did it all begin?

Designing and selling invitations has been in the works for a few years now; however, I was never able to give it the amount of time and energy it really needed to grow. I was working full-time and then I became pregnant and then there definitely wasn’t time (if only I knew then how much free time I really had ha!).

My husband and I agreed that I would stay home for 2 years with my son, and in that time I was to start my invitation business. Initially I said I’d start when my son was 3 months, then 6 months, then 12 months. Eventually it was nearing my 2 years at home, and my husband gave me the push I needed! I really wasn’t ready to re-enter the workforce yet, I still wanted to stay home with my son. So in January 2017 I FINALLY started designing and committing to making this work. I opened my Etsy store in March 2017, and I thought it would take months, to get my first sale. Within my first week I had gotten a sale, and I couldn’t believe it! This really gave me the confidence that I needed to really get things rolling and to really believe that this could be a viable business.

Tell me about you! Where are you from? What do you love? How many kids do you have?

I was born in Lisbon, Portugal and my parents moved to Melbourne, Australia when I was 5 years old. I still live in Melbourne with my husband, my 2 year old son and my Russian Blue Cat.

What do I love, hmmm it has been a while since I’ve actually thought about myself and what I enjoyed doing pre-toddler. I have always loved reading (though rarely get the time now); traveling (we are heading to Hawaii next week so let’s see how much I enjoy traveling after this trip); going to the movies (I’d pretty much watch anything if it meant I got to eat movie popcorn and drink coke); running. Realistically though, I rarely have any me time these days, so I really do love seeing my son experiencing new things and sneaking in a movie with my husband whenever one of the grandparents will baby sit!

Do you support a cause? If yes, tell me about it!

Animals! I love animals. Before Ross I helped care for stray kittens, however, it is a bit too much work now with a toddler and kittens.

We also support doctors without borders and sponsor a child from Mozambique (an old Portuguese colony).

What is the most challenging part of what you do?

Trying to get everything done and finding a balance. Because I am working from home, it’s easy to get carried away with orders. It’s the hardest when I am in the middle of an order or emailing a customer and my son will come and grab may hand to go and play with him. He still naps, thankfully, so I try to get out as many orders as I can in those 2 hours.

What is the most rewarding part of what you do?

Being able to contribute financially, and staying home with my son full-time. Also, doing what I have wanted to do for many years, but never had the courage to really follow through.

What is your ‘why’? (the biggest reason you do what you do)

Initially, it was so that I could stay home longer with my son. My husband said even if I make $100 a week, its something and it all helps. But as the sales started coming in; as I was becoming more and more adventurous with my designs; and meeting all of these great people from all over the world, I really started seeing my little business as something that I would really love to do even when I no longer have young children at home.

How long have you been in business?

I opened my store on Etsy in March 2017, and received my first sale a week later.

Who is your biggest supporter?

My husband! He really pushed and gave me the confidence to get it all started and to share my designs. I always thought that my designs were just too much my taste and that it wasn’t going to appeal to many people.

What is your favorite product that you make/sell?

I really love my calling all party animals design as well as my wild jungle designs. I also really love a bridal shower design with  lemons!

If you could start all over again, would you change anything?

I always think that had I only started when I intended on starting (back in 2015) I could be in a very different position now. However, I really don’t like to regret anything I do in life. What’s the point! I had a solid 2 years of my time dedicated to my son and only my son, and I can never get that time back. So while it would be great to be well established Etsy by now (had I started 2 years ago); I would have missed out on a lot with my son. So no, I don’t think I would change anything.

Travel + Sleep + Kids. Three things that when comb Travel + Sleep + Kids. Three things that when combined can be...rough. Usually the first night we stay anywhere new is HARD. Mostly because of a certain finicky youngest child 😏. Last night, for instance...I got about 3 hours of not very good sleep, between the two of my children and a bearded dragon 🙃. I do know that it always helps to try and create a familiar environment, which is why we always take along our @yogasleepusa Dohm on our trips. It's kinda bulky and the cord is a bit long but it works. Recently I was sent their travel mini sound machine with night light. It's so small and easy to pack, but packs a big sound!! It has a few different sound options to choose from and 3 levels of brightness. Thank you #yogasleep for helping us get the best sleep, anywhere!!
I had the BEST time staying at @hoteltrundle for m I had the BEST time staying at @hoteltrundle for my 30th birthday last weekend. Their hotel is so unique and fun, I couldn't imagine visiting Columbia and staying somewhere else! Hotel Trundle really immerses you in Columbia, not just because it's located in the heart of the city. From the moment you walk in the doors there are bits and pieces of Cola town sprinkled all over. It really is a special place and it's clear that a lot of thought, care, and heart went into creating it. I'm honored to have worked with them! I hope you will check out my "30th Birthday Staycation Celebration" blog post on Littleprinceleopold.com! I've covered my whole day exploring Columbia, all about the hotel (like the safety features they are implementing right now) and our time at a drag show! Right now Hotel Trundle is having a special: stay for 2 nights and get the 3rd night free! If you have been looking for a sign to have a Soda City adventure, this is it!
The reality of making a Gingerbread house with lit The reality of making a Gingerbread house with little kids:⁣
⁣
"Look guys! A fun and tasty Christmas activity + tradition!"⁣
⁣
"Okay you can eat some of the candy, that's fine, but you have to a least help me decorate a LITTLE bit"⁣
⁣
"Alright Alright that's enough candy. We need to have some left for the house!" ⁣
⁣
"Stop eating the candy!" ⁣
⁣
Cue the tears, foot stomps, "decorating it is boring! Why can't we just eat it!" And my sending Leopold to his room for an attitude adjustment. ⁣
⁣
Luckily that fixed the attitude up quickly and we were able to finish the house up and work together with just slightly less candy consumption. ⁣
⁣
It can be so frustrating when all you want to do is have a fun, memory making moment and you end up pulling your hair out and losing your patience. The funny thing is, 9 times out of 10, the memories that stick aren't of the frustration and raised voices. Our kids will remember the laughter, the sugar highs, and the effort that was made to create these special times. ⁣
⁣
Have you decorated gingerbread houses yet?
Just shopping for our next home, nbd 💁🏻‍♀️. Part of my birthday "staycation" included a walking tour courtesy of @historiccolumbia. Have you ever been to the Robert Mills house in the heart of downtown? This tour is a great way to learn a little bit about Columbia's history and is also the perfect setting for some beautiful pictures! We learned a lot about what life (and the holidays) was like in the 1800s when these homes were lived in. Historic Columbia offers a lot of unique experiences to the area. The tours are $10/person and take place completely outdoors, so it's a great social distancing activity too! This coming weekend they are showing "Christmas Vacation" on the lawn where each group gets their own block of space in the grass. If you're looking to get outdoors and get a little more in touch with your city, follow @historiccolumbia for updates on all their tours and events!

Happy to be 30 and excited for this next chapter in my life! Thanks for making my birthday a little extra special today @historiccolumbia and @hoteltrundle! I also treated myself to some new hair from @moss.moonhair and a charcuterie box from @carolina.charcuterie.co. Now I'm going to let my husband treat me to food, drinks and dessert on @mainstcolasc!
Welcome to the neighborhood, @crumblcookies ! Than Welcome to the neighborhood, @crumblcookies ! Thanks to @valuemindedmama we heard that you could get free cookies today from the newest sweet shop in town (Lexington...right next door to Target) so naturally we had to go check it out! And naturally I ended up spending $10 on cookies in addition to the four HUGE free chocolate chip ones. I had to try the fancy flavors out! They were delicious but SO SWEET. I think we all took about two bites and that was plenty 😂. So these cookies will last us longer than 8 normal cookies for sure!
Working our way through our 24 days of books! They Working our way through our 24 days of books! They aren't all Christmas books, but majority are...and I still need a few. I love children's books so much so I justify buying them constantly by getting them dirt cheap from Goodwill and always having a stream of books for sale on Mercari. We definitely keep our favorites though! Nothing like snuggling up by our gorgeous @kingofchristmas tree and reading together 🥰.
I was gifted the cutest macarons from @wordytoys a I was gifted the cutest macarons from @wordytoys a couple of weeks ago! I want to give them to Finley for Christmas so I let my pal Leon test them out for photos and they were a hit! Wordy has lots of fun, well made toys that help kids learn new words in multiple languages! We chose Spanish but you can pick French as well. They are wood and perfect for practicing motor skills by taking them apart and fitting them back together. These would make a great gift by themselves by they are also the perfect size to slip into a stocking!
Happy December! It's always a very busy and expens Happy December! It's always a very busy and expensive month for us, as we have 4 big birthdays and of course Christmas! But that's also what makes it one of my favorite months. The kids are loving their "matching" pajamas that their elves brought them. I wanted to document them in a cute way so I thought I'd reenact one of my favorite photos of my niece and nephew from nearly 15 years ago. I was frustrated that Finley wouldn't smile..Finley was frustrated that I wouldn't just hand over the dang candy I was bribing her with 😂. I think I almost like this version better! Swipe to see my cute inspiration pic!
We had a great time at @sodacitysc last night for We had a great time at @sodacitysc last night for their holiday market! We finally tried the @belgianwafflecart and enjoyed browsing the vendors with all the twinkly Christmas lights and decorative coats on the trees 😂. It really got us in the holiday spirit! Plus it wasn't crowded at all! I think since it was a 3 day event it was easy to disperse the crowds a bit. This was our first time back at Soda City this year! It was really good to be back 😊.
Happy Thanksgiving Insta Fam! My day went like thi Happy Thanksgiving Insta Fam! My day went like this: Cook, eat, clean. And those were the 3 main components, with eating as just a blip in the middle 😂. But my curry got rave reviews from the family and it tasted just like it did when my grandma used to make it! I enjoy chopping food so this was easy prep, and my husband was the best help cleaning the house and wrangling children while I was busy in the kitchen. I'm very grateful for my little family today and every day!

And cheesecake for dessert! I'll also be making French bread French toast and bacon for breakfast with some pumpkin spice coffee! What food are you most excited about? Leopold is just excited for Friday when Elfie returns from the North Pole 😆. Little does he know, Elfie is bringing along a friend this year for Finley!

I'm loving my home more and more as I add a few personal touches and paint/stain/update things. My @mapiful prints are some of my favorites because they are nice to look at and they help tell our story. They also make the best gifts! This week you can get 20% off everything on their site! I actually wrote a blog post on it (first blog in months...oops) and I also got one about the fireplace done too! See them both on Littleprinceleopold.com.

I wish you could see this in person, it's even prettier! It's got shine, it's got glitter, it's even got glow in the dark paint in there!
Oh, Nugget Tree, Oh Nugget Tree 🎄 Sometimes one Oh, Nugget Tree, Oh Nugget Tree 🎄
Sometimes one Christmas tree just isn't enough 😆. Bonus, this one is also a fun tunnel to hide under/crawl through! Still glad I got my Nugget last year about 3 days before they were nearly impossible to score 😝.

@nuggetcomfort
I caved! I was trying to wait to decorate but then I caved! I was trying to wait to decorate but then our shiny new tree from @kingofchristmas came and I couldn't wait any longer! (Gifted)

It was so easy to put together! Check out my stories to see the hyperlapse of me and @katillacjack building it.

Another reason I could not wait to decorate was because look at my fireplace!! Ever since we moved in to this house I've been saying I want to update it...well 2020 is the year of home projects for a lot of us and it only took me one weekend to get it done! I LOVE IT. It brightens up the room so much and feels so much cleaner (also because it IS so much cleaner.) Swipe to see before/during/after shots!

It definitely lit a fire in me, and I can't wait to show you the next couple projects I'm working on! Have you done any home projects lately!?
Have you taken your vitamins today? We got sent th Have you taken your vitamins today? We got sent these @rdnaturals elderberry gummies last week and we are all hooked! I've always tried to keep up with my vitamins but this year I've gotten really good at it 😂. The kids get regular gummy vitamins each day and now they get these too! I take chocolate vitamins "for her" as well as zinc, omega 3s/fish oil and vitamin C every day. 💪🏻What vitamins do you take regularly?

These elderberry gummies are so yummy and so good for you! I love that they are local to me too, as the company is located in Charleston, SC!
