My Advice to a First Time Boy Mom
I have been provided with some products for free to review in this post. All opinions are always my own!
I have a lot of pregnant friends right now…it’s kind of wonderful! It also makes my ovaries hurt!
A couple of those friends are having boys, some are even having their FIRST boy. When I got pregnant we were convinced we were having a girl. We were pretty certain of this until a couple of weeks before the ultrasound, when my husband started thinking ‘no, it’s probably going to be a boy’. When the results were in, I wouldn’t say I was disappointed, but I feel like I expected it to be a girl so I was slightly taken by surprise.
Of course, I don’t have a girl, so I have no way to compare the two, but the main things people said to me when we announced gender were:
“Boys are SO great! Congratulations!”
“You’re going to be outnumbered! Buy a lot of bleach for the bathroom!”
“You will love being a boy mom, those boys LOVE their mamas!”
“Boys are so much more snuggly than girls.”
Like I said, I have nothing to compare to, but so far those things are all true! They ARE great, there IS pee everywhere, and he DOES love his mama!
I am excited to eventually have another baby and obviously I don’t have a choice picking the gender but I really can’t decide if I would prefer another boy, or if I want a girl. I LOVE my boy. He is sweet, clever and independent. He is outgoing yet cautious, kind, and SUPER talkative. I would love to give him a brother! Selfishly, I want a girl, too. I want the dresses and bows, pigtails and painted fingernails, and I want a relationship like the one I shared with my mother.
To all my boy moms and boy moms to be, being a mom to a boy is the greatest. Truly.
If you were hoping for a girl and are struggling with feeling disappointed and guilty for even feeling that way, I get it. It’s okay to feel that way, but I promise you it won’t last! You will forget all about that disappointment when you hold your baby for the first time.
It seems silly to fuss over the fact that girls clothes are cuter and more fun to buy (and that may be true…I’m sure I save so much money by having a boy). As my son has gotten older I’ve realized that you really can dress boys just as cute as girls! My only grievance would be that potty training girls seems simpler because you can just let them run around in a dress. My son is in t shirts most of the time because he can’t figure out how to get his pants up and down yet.
Our number one goal when getting dressed is to be comfortable. So when I can find clothes for my son that are comfortable AND cute, I call it a win!
These Sleepers from Boody baby are simple, functional (the zipper goes both ways for easy diaper changes) and softer than butter! I’m excited to gift these babies to a couple of my expectant friends and know how cozy their babies will be wearing them!
The jury is still out on gifting this stretch jersey blanket, though. I pulled it out of the box to take photos and I’m pretty sure I want to keep it for ME! It’s probably the softest jersey type blanket I’ve ever gotten my hands on. I DO plan on having another baby…Hmmm…
So, expectant boy moms, get excited, because you have an ADVENTURE heading your way! A messy, sweet, wild, snuggly adventure that will rock your world and turn it upside down.
