What’s in my hospital bag: Newborn edition

What to pack for baby in hospital bag

I’ve seen a lot of posts geared toward mom’s hospital bag, but what about baby?

True, the hospital provides everything you could need for your new baby. You get diapers, wipes, pacifiers, shirts, hats, blankets, even formula if you decide you are going that route. If you forget to pack for baby, don’t stress!

If you are like me, however, you like to be a little more prepared than you need to be. I’m slightly obsessed with all things baby. Baby clothes, baby blankets, baby gear in general. That’s part of the reason I started this blog! It would give me more of a reason to find the coolest new products for babies and toddlers. Even more exciting is when I’m able to share these products with my followers!

This is what I took along for Leopold when I went to the hospital:

newborn hospital bag

  • A towel. In my birthing class there was a whole section on how rough the towels that they use on the babies are. She said to take our own towels and let daddy pat the baby clean. There was some confusion after he came out and they used one of my towels which kind of defeated the purpose…but it was a nice thought.
  • A cute swaddle blanket. Sure the hospital blankets are iconic, but I just love Leopold’s muslin swaddles and these mint elephants are so cute! We were able to wrap him up nice and tight in it! It helps that it’s a good bit softer than the hospital blankets.
  • An outfit or two for our stay in the hospital. We were in the hospital a little longer than normal due to Leopold’s jaundice so I was glad to have a couple of options. I love the Burt’s Bees line because it’s so simple and soft. We took a long sleeve onesie, a short sleeve, and a pair of pants (can’t go wrong with the cute $4.50 patterned pants at Target)!
  • Baby socks and mittens plus a couple cute hats
  • Going home outfit. A friend made this for us and I just love it so much! It’s a little gown that cinches at the bottom and has covers for his hands.
  • Guest book and sharpie. I love this little book so much, and it’s so meaningful now! Almost everyone who came to visit Leopold signed this book, including my mom who isn’t with us anymore. We got his footprints stamped on the last page too and I almost cry every time I read it! If you do this make sure to protect that page with a paper towel or something similar until you are able to coat it with something like this mod podge spray that I used.

final day in the hospital

So that’s it! That’s all I took for Leopold and it was more than enough. What did you pack for your newborn?

Happy Birthday Mama ❤
Another day spent outside! I felt every move I mad Another day spent outside! I felt every move I made in bed last night after trimming 4 huge overgrown but dead/dying bushes down to the trunks so we can rip them out and plant more veggies. But getting back out there today was all I could think about! Luckily my friend came over and helped me move everything and hang stuff and she even brought kids to entertain mine. AND she gave me all the stuff in this photo to create the cutest little garden station! It was so nice this morning but ended up being pretty hot! I love having @liquidiv in my tool kit to help me stay hydrated! They gifted me a few boxes recently and it feels so good to have a fresh stock! I tried the "energy" flavor and I don't know if it worked but I did get the garage clean and pushed myself from 9:30-4! 💪🏻 who needs a gym! And yeah...I'm wearing the shorts again 😅
I have a new baby. It's my garden. I've always bee I have a new baby. It's my garden. I've always been a plant killer (indoor plants mostly) but I'm LOVING this outdoor gardening thing. No fruits of our labor yet but they are flourishing for now and I'm crossing my fingers!

Sometimes I moonlight as a fashion blogger 😉. ( Sometimes I moonlight as a fashion blogger 😉. (#fableticspartner) Going on a lady date to Walmart after the kids are asleep is dangerous 💰💰 My friend @annarprice14 #influenced me to try out the "bike shorts and oversized men's tee with birkenstocks" look and I'm kind of loving it 💁🏼‍♀️. I never watched Tiger King beyond one episode but I'm really going for the Carole Baskin vibe 😆 I can't get enough cheetah print! And I loved last years @fabletics cheetah shorts so much that I got the exact same pair again. So don't judge if that's all you see me wear. They are clean! What's your go to comfy summer look?
It's official-we have two biking kids and zero str It's official-we have two biking kids and zero stroller babies! After a year of watching Leopold on his balance bike, Finley finally decided to try and keep up with him! She made it all the way around the block last night on Leopold's old @toot_scoot balance bike and then went even father tonight. We lifted the seat a bit after yesterday and you can tell the difference in the two videos! So proud of these kids! (Also peep two days of Limited Too tees that I thrifted 😆)
Soooo happy we were able to get back to our favori Soooo happy we were able to get back to our favorite Easter event at Fox Farm! We went when Leopold was 1.5 and then 2.5 but have missed the last two years. It was only $16 for the four of us and there was so much to do! Easter bunny photos, pony rides, playgrounds, a petting/feeding "zoo" area, hay rides, and egg hunts! We even got to share the morning with a good bit of family and friends 🥰.
Finley's notable moment of the day was that she got to see a horse poop 💩. When I asked if she had another favorite part of the day she said "Daddy!" 😍 Leopold loved the egg hunt and pony rides! Did you do anything fun today?

Shout out to all the women who inspire me 🎉. #f Shout out to all the women who inspire me 🎉. #fableticspartner

Thank you to the women who post the things they love about their bodies, and their insecurities too. Sharing positive affirmations, teaching people that fat doesn't necessarily mean unhealthy, and reminding me that I'm my own worst critic. I see beautiful women sharing these things every day and it really helps me to be able to see the beauty in myself more clearly. I've also come to realize that we aren't all designed to be the same shape and size. All my life I wanted to be fit, have a tiny waist and less thunderous thighs. Then I realized that maybe I'm just not built to be a sports illustrated model. Why make myself miserable trying to be one? I'm always working on loving my body no matter what it looks like, some days are easier than others.

Here are some of the beautiful women who share posts that inspire me to love myself right where I'm at-

Who wore it best? And can you guess who in our fam Who wore it best? And can you guess who in our family DOESN'T like snakes? 🤔😂 Reptile love must be a maternal trait in this family but I'm happy to be passing it on to my children! This was Finley's first time really getting to hold a snake...I think she did well! Swipe for a video>>>
We are having fun babysitting Cinnamon for our friends. Finley couldn't get enough and even wanted to kiss and hug on her 😆. We drew the line at kissing!
I may be 30 years old but tonight I went to the sk I may be 30 years old but tonight I went to the skating rink for "80's night" and made new friends like I was back in middle school (which was the last time I was in this place btw). Hey moms, it's okay to have a hobby and make new friends! Lose the guilt!
Well hello there Spring 🌸 When @moonbeam0505 as Well hello there Spring 🌸
When @moonbeam0505 asked if we had heard of/tried the new cookie shop in Lexington called @mingoscookiesco, I knew we HAD to go. I mean..."mingos" are kind of our thing! I couldn't resist the call of Boba and cookies! Then we burnt off the sugar with some creek play! Spring is off to a pretty great start 😊. How has it been for you so far?
A little "Instagram vs. Reality" fun for your Frid A little "Instagram vs. Reality" fun for your Friday 😂🙈.
Decided to dress Finley and I alike and have Leopold take our photo. Garage door is 👎🏻 so I took us on a virtual road trip to Charlotte where this actual mural lives. Finley did NOT want to strike a pose with me 🙄. I don't love how I look in these but I love that we match (somewhat) and I love her sweet little face! Swipe to see her taking one shot and then peace-ing out. The first photo is what I call a "tickle shot" 😂.
Photo cred to Leopold, who took a few like this then said "okay mom now look really serious. Now do one where you look like a famous person!" 🤩 I was so proud.

Swipe to see my garden 2 weeks ago vs. Today! I'm so proud of our progress 😊. Now hopefully by the end of summer we will see some life blooming out of those tires! Seedlings in progress are jalapeños, peppers and mint. In line for planting is garlic, mini watermelon, Lettuce, squash and tomatoes. We also planted 3 blueberry bushes, a blackberry vine, and an apple tree (yeah just one, apparently it's self fertilizing). I'm nervous starting my veggies from seeds so I might also go get a couple actual plants to add in there...we'll see. Are you growing anything this spring? I usually kill every plant I touch (see the 3 in the garden that are already wilting) but I'm trying to learn and be better!
We got some sweet @trolls swag gifted to us last w We got some sweet @trolls swag gifted to us last week! I was going to save it for Easter but when it came right before our trip I thought it would be a cool thing to entertain the kids with while we were hanging out at the cabin! It was also a great way to celebrate with Leopold the fact that he got into the school we applied for! Still only 70% sure that's the one we will pick...but why not celebrate?! These would definitely make great Easter basket stuffers for your little Trolls lovers! I'm excited to build the Lego set!
Do your kids love Trolls?
4 generations! 😲 I think I resemble my mom a lo 4 generations! 😲
I think I resemble my mom a lot, and I see a lot of Finley in the photo of my grandma! What do you think? (And enjoy a couple outtakes of silly Finley)

5 years ago was the hardest day of my life, when I lost my mom/best friend. It's one of the hardest parts of being a mom for me. That I can't call my mom to laugh or cry about my kids' antics or my reactions to those behaviors. I hate that I can't call her to say she was right about so many things, or that I can now relate to her in so many more ways. I can't give her a million hugs knowing how badly she struggled with her mental health with little to no support system. I saw her go through things without thinking twice about them until I was a mom myself and felt those things firsthand or saw friends struggle with them. Anxiety, depression, body image problems /serial dieting, and watching friends come and go. I wish I could tell her that I get it now and that she was never alone in those feelings. She just wasn't lucky enough to have a virtual village to help her through a lot of those things back when I was little. I'll never stop whining about the fact that we can't have special days with the kids like I am lucky to have with my mother in law. She would be so proud of me and these amazing kids, I just know it ❤❤. Never take your parents for granted. Never underestimate the power of having a village behind you either.

I'll love you forever, I'll like you for always. As long as I'm living my mama you'll be 💛💜 (still can't read that book to my kids 😭)
