Today was both good and stressful.
The only truly stressful part was the fact that I spent a couple hours in the backseat of a station wagon sandwiched between two car seats. One was empty while the other contained a screaming, flailing two year old. I have had a headache lingering for two days now, and the screaming didn’t help!
We started our day at Sparkassen, the local bank. K helped me sign up for an account, and I received a debit card and a ton of paperwork that is in German, therefore completely useless to me.
We hit up a couple grocery stores and K bought me a diet coke and a croissant, then we went to her favorite cafe (the Florentina Cafe) and she got me a latte. When we finally finished our running around, it was time to get Clara and when K and Lukas went in the school, Elle started to scream bloody murder. I learned that Elle likes Lady Gaga, as she calmed down considerably when I sang ‘bad romance’. Best nanny award goes to…
Mine and Clara’s relationship is improving, and I think she hates me a little less than before. Suddenly she always wants me to sit by her, put her shoes on, carry her and cut her food. A memorable moment happened today in Clara’s language skills. She wanted me to go inside for some chalk (asked in German) and I said
“oh, chalk…okay” and she said
“what is that?” in Deutsch, and I said
“Chalk” and she said
“chalk” slightly slurred.
Clara has been refusing to learn any English since I arrived and this was really surprising to me!
For lunch we had pretzel balls! I topped my pretzel ball with ‘frischkaese creme’ which is an herb mixed with cheese that is ridiculously delicious.
J (babysitter) came this evening and we had ice cream and lattes and played in the Garden. While we were playing outside I made Clara a crown of wildflowers. The flower crown made her so excited she actually hugged me! It was probably the sweetest she has ever acted toward me.
I love the weekends. They are always so relaxing and I get to sleep in, which is probably the best part.
Today the kids went with their dad to the airstrip where he keeps his glider. While they were out K and Elle and I went into Murnau to do some shopping. We went to about 3 different grocery stores, a hardware store and a garden store that my mother would have absolutely loved.
K bought me two ‘shocko’ (chocolate filled) croissants which are another favorite of mine. After buying baked goods for the kids we went to the airstrip to deliver the food and pick up the little ones.
After the kids got up we took a walk down to the lake.
At the lake we saw some geese and a swan who was looking for food. Clara walked to the edge of the water and screamed at the top of her lungs “SWAAAANNNNN!! SWAAAANNNN!” Eventually the swan came up on land and started walking towards us, so K and I gathered the children and got out of there quick!
K decided that a looming swan attack was a good enough reason for lattes, so we had some, then made dinner for the kids. K made huge green ravioli that contained some meat and veggies and tasted like sausage. Neither child ate much so I ate their scraps and that was my dinner. I was offered more but I am trying to build up my ability to say ‘no’ to food [HAHA].
