April 19th

My year spent as an au pair in Germany, told in many parts.
A light has come on in my brain.
I know why I am not stressed out about everyone speaking German around me! All of the Sims I have played has payed off! I always knew those hours weren’t pointless. Today I made the realization that right now it seems as if I have been dropped into a game of The Sims. Complete with an elaborate house, a lake, and everyone speaking in what could very well be Simlish. As with my Sims, a lot of times I know what they want because of their circumstances and how they are acting.
For example, tonight at bedtime while K was reading Clara her story, I was looking at the pictures in another book, not really paying attention. Soon Clara came over to me and started demanding something. Without thinking I handed her the prayer book that was near me. In my head it made sense because after the story is prayer time and the book was near me.
K looked at me with astonishment and said ‘sometimes I swear you understand German!’ It’s good to know that I am being perceptive.
Anyhow, today was another busy one…Clara had a few friends over for her party and we spent the day doing party things.
K bought some delectable ‘pretzel balls’ at the bakery…I had three…they were SO good. I played outside with Lukas because he was wandering all over the house, nervous about all the festivities. I had to fight with him to change his diaper, and flailing poopy baby is not a pretty picture. Before that he slapped me in the face, but not hard (lucky for him).
Clara’s party was a success! We had bubbly ‘party for kids’ drinks, lots of sweets, a popcorn machine, games and prizes, and even went to the lake to feed the ducks. For the majority of the party I was on baby duty, but I did not mind.
K made fresh Gelato and bought cones and dipped the rims of them in chocolate and sprinkles. J the babysitter came today to help with the party which was really nice! The kids were in bed promptly by 7 so I think the day way definitely a success.
