April 14th

My year spent as an au pair in Germany, told in many parts. (2010-2011)
Today was ‘easy like Sunday morning’.
I woke up at 7:15 and the kids knocked on my door about 5 minutes later. That will teach me to get my butt out of bed and get dressed right when my alarm goes off!
We did our breakfast routine-
[This was the breakfast routine: (I was supposed to have everything ready before the family got downstairs during the week) I would start up the coffee machine which took time to warm up. Hook up the milk and get S’s cup ready with two sugars. Set out bowls and pray that I picked the correct color for Clara’s mood that day. I set up the rest of the dishes and then laid out the cereal (Muesli), juices, milk, yogurt, sugar, and any fruits we had in the fridge. The breakfast of choice was ‘Fitness Muesli’ topped with plain yogurt, bananas, and milk. At first I thought this was odd but it ended up being my favorite breakfast by the end of the year! K always bought me my own ‘Dinosaurier Muesli’ that was mostly just oats and chocolate pieces but it came in a clear bag with a Dino sticker to collect.]
then S took Clara to school while I stayed behind with the rest of the family. I played with Lukas for a good two or three hours, then S’s mom’s caregiver took me to the public authorities. I still had to get everything taken care of as far as me being in Germany legally.
At the post office she had me ask to buy stamps in German. It was pretty awkward since she had to say each word to me and I would repeat it to the employee. At the grocery store I got some nutella, bread, evian water, diet coke, salami and pepperoni for my room.
By the time we got back the kids were already down for their naps, and lunch had been eaten. There was some leftover chicken and potatoes for me, which I scarfed down so I didn’twaste precious nap time. I scurried upstairs and got online for a while before getting to talk to my mom on the phone for her birthday.

My mom and I around 2012-My favorite person in the world!! She passed away in March and life has been a little bit of a mess ever since.
When the children woke up, K asked if I’d had a nap yet. I hadn’t, so she told me to take an hour for one. I slept a little, and woke to a lot of screaming and throwing things from downstairs because the children had napped a little too long.
When I got up K, Lukas and Elle had gone to order flowers for S’s dad’s funeral. I hung out with Clara at home and we hid from witches until the babysitter got there at which time I went back upstairs. It was a fairly easy day- almost like having a day off!
