Well, now that Leopold turns three here soon, I figured I should write up a post about his second birthday party! I was really excited about this theme and had a great time putting it all together…not sure why I never shared it with y’all!
The theme for his birthday was “Two Wild” since he had (and still has) a fascination with all animals.
We had a lot of fun doing this photo shoot ahead of time! I ordered this ‘2’ balloon on Wish a few months prior to his party and it was HUGE! It was actually really hot this day which is why his pants got rolled up! I used my Cricut to make the decal for his t-shirt that I found at H&M. His pants are from H&M too. The shoes are courtesy of Freshly Picked! We LOVE our moccasins.
We got up the morning of his birthday and filled his room with balloons. Balloons never get old!! That morning was a Saturday so we dressed him up in his authentic German Lederhosen and went to Oktoberfest at our local farmer’s market. Then he took a long nap and I got everything ready for the party!
My father in law works for a company that has it’s own island and he’s able to reserve shelters like this for free! He snagged us a really good one right near the playground and close to the water. We grilled hamburgers and hot dogs and had an awesome time seeing family and friends! People came from all over, Florida, Georgia, even my 92 year old grandma made the trip! She and Leopold share a birthday so it was extra special to have her there.
We mixed a little monochrome with bright colors (red/blue/green) and I painted some watercolor animals that I framed as table decorations. I also bought some cheap wood frames from Michael’s and added photos of him at the zoo through the years.
I painstakingly made these ‘zebra’ cake pops and learned once again that I’m terrible at working with melting chocolate! Even though it was a pain, they came out tasting great. The recipe I usually use for cake pops is something like this:
- Make some cake
- Smash it up
- Add icing
- Roll into balls
- Let cool and add sticks
- Dip in melted chocolate and let harden on wax paper on in a stand
Obviously my technique needs work since I had such a hard time and they definitely aren’t the prettiest!
