You guys know by now that I’m a huge advocate for children engaging in equal play. Why should toy kitchens, cleaning sets, dolls, etc be geared for girls only? And why should toys like building sets, trucks, and ‘tough’ toys be marketed only to boys?
Society is getting a lot better about evening the playing field, but there is still a lot of ignorance on the subject. See a similar post I wrote about it here.
I like to think my son is very well rounded. He likes playing rough, toy cars, soccer, and dirt. But he also likes his baby dolls, stroller, kitchen, and vacuum cleaner.
We recently partnered with an awesome company that is based in Sweden called Rubens Barn. ‘Barn’ in Swedish means ‘children’, and it’s obvious that children are the focus of this company!
I was excited to hear back from them and find out that I’m one of their first American influencer partnerships! I am excited about this opportunity and thrilled to be part of the team!
The goal when making each of the Rubens Barn dolls is to create a toy that is built to last throughout childhood. These dolls are beautifully made with the sweetest expressions! They are soft and snuggly and the perfect friend for your child.
Leopold got Erik, a Rubens Baby. The babies are slightly bigger than the other varieties but have features that match up with babies more closely. They are anatomically correct, which is great for learning body parts and that those things are normal!
Rubens Barn sent us a diaper kit with baby Erik, which included two cloth diapers with Velcro straps, and a little plush pee and poop. Leopold thinks the pee and poop are hilarious and loves playing with them all by themselves! Kids are so weird.
Erik has little tongue that can be in or out of his mouth. His thumb fits nicely in his mouth as well! I think he looks the cutest with his tongue out!
When I first introduced Erik to Leopold, I had put the poop in his diaper and told Leopold we needed to change it. He was a little surprised by the ‘surprise’ but went right to work and asked for a baby wipe to get the poop off. He’s going to be a natural at the diaper changing thing!
These dolls are great tools for children who are about to welcome a new sibling into the family. They are also great for encouraging empathy, creativity, and self awareness in children. All of which are very important skills in both boys and girls!
There are many different varieties of Rubens Barn dolls to choose from, and a handful of clothing and accessories that you can add on for each different type of doll. I may go back and get a bottle and paci for baby Erik in the future, and maybe a change of clothes, but for now he is perfect as is!
Erik was shipped to us directly from Sweden, and it took less than a week for him to show up at our door step. I don’t know what it is about Sweden, but almost everything I’ve ever gotten from there has taken very little time to be delivered. Bonus points for Sweden!
