This week I’ve got a special guest post version of Mom Boss Monday!
Now, I don’t typically have much to do with direct sales, just as a personal preference. I have had some not some great experiences with saleswomen who don’t know when to quit (haven’t we all).
I do want to support and encourage all of you awesome mamas who are out there working hard for your families!
Diana is family and I am happy to help get the word out about her new business. She was lucky enough to find a line of products that really works well for her. It’s wonderful to see someone go after something they are passionate about, and it really helps other people believe in the products too.
SO if you have ever been curious about Rodan + Fields, here is your chance to read Diana’s personal testimony on the subject!
My Experience with Rodan + Fields
Hi Little Prince Leopold readers! My name is Diana Bray, I’m Ayana’s sister’s, sister inlaw (confused?), and Ayana was gracious enough to allow me to guest post about myexperience with Rodan + Fields, and decision to become a consultant. I know whatyou’re thinking – another person who’s going to be posting on social media aboutproducts I’m not interested in, and bragging about any income they earn. However, thatis not what I’m envisioning!Let me back up a bit and explain how I heard about R + F and why I decided to try it.
I may have seen a couple random blog posts about Rodan + Fields in the past, but theonly one that really made me pay attention was Colleen Nichols from The LunchboxDiaries. She seemed authentic and not someone who would waste her time. Not tomention her results were impressive! But having seen estimates of the cost(~$200/regimen which lasts 2 months) I pretty much wrote it off. My mindset was, sureI’d love to try it, but even if I loved it I wouldn’t want to continually pay that much forskincare. And if I wasn’t prepared to commit to it, then what was the point in trying it.At that time, I really didn’t know my main skin concern. Gradually over time I hadaccumulated dark marks and freckles on my skin, but I also thought the darker oneswere acne scars. When I took pictures without makeup my skin didn’t look clear oreven, but I didn’t have pimples or acne per se. I also had fairly large pores on mycheeks. Not to mention I was interested in beginning an anti-aging regimen (hello 30),but I really didn’t know how to target all of those concerns. I couldn’t find manyresources on pairing over the counter products for targeting those concerns, and it wastoo overwhelming to try to research on my own, especially with the fairly high risk thatthey wouldn’t work.Months past, and I continued paying about $120 for another skincare line (SimoneFrance, which lasted me about 3-4 months) that I liked well enough, but I stoppedseeing real improvements in my skin. My skin felt nice after I exfoliated, but itsunevenness/texture remained the same. Finally, when that ran out at the end of summerI told myself I either needed to stop buying $100+ skincare, and either switch toinexpensive products, or invest in a dermatology appointment to get theirrecommendation. However, given the fact my insurance wouldn’t cover a cosmetic dermatologyappointment, not to mention the products that they prescribe, I thought for sure I wastalking about hundreds of dollars worth of expenses. That’s when I started seriouslyconsidering trying Rodan + Fields. First, when I looked up the regimen’s, thebefore/after pictures I looked up online for Reverse seemed to address the dark spotissue I was having, which really intrigued me because before seeing those I couldn’tenvision what I wanted my skincare to do. I also loved that they had a 60 day moneyback guarantee, and I had read blog reviews which seemed to verify it truly was no-hassle. The two factors that took me the longest to reconcile was the ongoing cost, aswell as the fact that R+F was a multi-level marketing (MLM) company…aka what Iconsidered a pyramid scheme. Honestly, if I could have bought R+F over the counter, anonymously, I would have tried it a long time ago, but my negative stigma against MLMcompanies held me back.
In September 2017 I pulled the trigger and reached out to Colleen about trying R+F. Iwas firm that I only wanted to try the Reverse Lightning regimen and wasn’t interestedin trying anything else, even though a lot of the products intrigued me. About 1 monthinto the regimen are when the results really started becoming apparent, and places onmy face began looking even and smooth. After the second month I continued to seeresults and the darker marks that I had, began to fade. To me it almost looked like ascreen was lifted off my face. I decided to replenish my regimen in November, and I’vecontinued to see my darker marks fade. Over the years I had tried product after productthat promised to reveal ‘even’ skin, smaller pores and brighter skin, but never sawresults. Rodan + Fields impressed me because, quite simply, the products did what theysaid they would do. Something that should be expected, but many products fall short. As far as why I chose to become a consultant; I love the products. Given the opportunityto try to earn money from a product that excites, and impressed me enticed me. Frankly,R+F skincare is a splurge for me. I have a full-time job that I enjoy, and don’t have planson giving it up; so for me success means breaking even on my investment in thebusiness, as well as making a dent in the cost of my skincare. Also, as someone who was frequently turned off by social media posts of people bragging about their incomeor perks received, I think there is an untapped market of women who want to try R +Fbut are put off by certain sales techniques or the multi-level marketing structure. While excited, that’s not to say I’m not nervous or anxious about putting myself out there– I most certainly am. But I think I’d regret it more if I didn’t try it. My goal in thisbusiness is to be honest, transparent, and always keep the customer’s needs (eventheir constraints) my top priority. These products speak for themselves, so I truly believeproviding good customer service will be icing on the cake.
