We LOVE books in our house. Leopold has been really into animals lately so those have been our favorites! He also loves a lot of random books I got second hand at Goodwill. One of his favorites is ‘Five Fluffy Bunnies’ which is a Peter Rabbit style counting book. It’s really short and really beat up and the last page says ‘James’s first Easter, 2007’, but it’s one of his favorites.
Never underestimate the 50 cent books at Goodwill. Really. We got about 5 of the ‘How Does a Dinosaur…’ books from there, and lots of Sandra Boynton books that have become favorites. They might not be in perfect shape but for 50 cent, who cares??
Anyway, this isn’t meant to be about books we DO have, but books we WANT. Amazon has a TON of awesome books listed for pretty reasonable prices. We have only gotten one so far, which is a lift the flap counting book with the neatest illustrations! I’m dying to get the rest in that series!
I love books that feature ‘Real’ or realistic animals versus super cartoon-ish ones. We have both varieties but this one just looks really cute!
I’ll go ahead and say, I love interactive books. Touch and feel, lift the flap, seek and find, etc. This one is all about trucks making deliveries and is full of flaps!
Leopold has the ‘Color Dogs’ version of this book and he loves it. He is really into Old MacDonald and Farm things right now so I know he would enjoy this one!
This one looks like it might be a little over his head but I still think he would enjoy reading it and looking at the illustrations! This is a great book for learning about pairs (obviously).
This is by the same author and helps kids learn to pick out things that don’t belong. Once again, I love the illustrations!
This one also has an animal theme, and is interactive with touch and feel features. Seriously…my favorites.
This is great for kids who are learning to use the potty and love Elmo!
Another wonderful Goodwill find was an old kids animal encyclopedia. It’s been one of his favorites for weeks now. I’d love to get him a newer version with lots of photos, like this one!
This book is full of fun facts about different kinds of animals. It looks like an awesome book that’s probably well worth the 20$ price tag!
Another cool interactive book is this finger maze series! They have many different varieties but this is the farm one which I know my son would love!
11. A B See
I just love the way this book looks! I can imagine Leopold spending a lot of time picking out all the different objects in each letter. This would be a great road trip book!
This is another with with ‘lots’ to look at. It just looks so fun!
This is just another cool looking animal book full of facts and fun illustrations. It’s not ‘Montessori’ by any means (the animals being cartoon is a huge no-no in the Montessori world. I love the idea of Montessori practices but I don’t see much harm in cartoon animals.
We have the Patterns treasure hunt and while it’s not exactly much to read, it’s fun to learn patterns and different animals and plant life.
This is a fun book to learn new words and look at pictures!
