We love the zoo.
If you follow my blog you will probably see a lot of future posts taking place here. It’s really close to our house, we get in free with our membership, and there is always something new to discover.
In the last couple of years they have added a lot of new things to the zoo. Waterfall Junction, Sea Lion Landing, a new gift shop, and a few new places to get food. There are a few new animals too, like otters! One of our favorite animals to watch (and my favorite place to get photos) are the sea lions!
Our zoo is nice because it’s not too spread out (I know, this is terrible for the animals. I hate it for them, I really do). If we just want to kill some time we can be done in an hour and still have seen almost everything.
Now that Leopold is a bit older he is getting super interested in animals.
His favorite is zebras! It’s so fun to see his eyes grow big when he sees one, or if he recognizes some other animal like a giraffe, lemur, or flamingo.
Earlier this week we received a Dinomite Dinosaurs Pack N’ Snack Backpack in the mail from Olive Kids in exchange for our honest review.
All opinions are my own!
I first saw this print on a popular TV show (Shameless) when one of the characters had it for school. It was really just in the background of a couple of shots but my childlike brain always seems to be able to pick things like this out. I love dinosaurs. I always have. Now that I have a son I’m able to project my weird obsession on him a little bit!
I love this print because it’s in my favorite colors, it has dinos on it, and it’s sort of whimsical…don’t you think? I can almost picture mythical creatures living inside those trees.
Did I mention I’m a bit of a Harry Potter geek too?
Long story short, I was browsing ‘toddler backpacks’ on Amazon and I saw the same print I’d fallen in love with on Shameless! I was so excited, but became even more excited when I realized it was the perfect size for my 19 month old son. The backpack is just as pretty in person as it was online and we are so happy with it!
It is so much nicer to bring to a play date than our bulky diaper bag backpack.
The front pocket is insulated and large enough to keep a snack or two in, which is exactly what we use it for. We actually use our Planet Wise reusable snack bags since we have two and the kids can each have their own. They fit in there perfectly! I also keep a paci for each kid in that front pocket for unexpected emotional breakdowns. I’m still working on getting mini bottles of wine for my emotional breakdowns (kidding…possibly).
Another snack box that fits well in the front pocket is our Snap and Shop tray. I use this when it’s just Leopold and I. It comes with a lid so I can add two different things to it and have it travel well. An added bonus is that if we end up at the store, I already have it ready to clip to the shopping cart!
In the main pocket I put two diapers for each child and a small case with wipes. I am trying to keep it simple so it doesn’t get too heavy for Leopold to carry. We keep the big diaper bag in the car with the other necessities (changes of clothes, sunscreen, more diapers, bibs, etc).
Leopold is still getting the hang of carrying it. It is pretty funny watching him try to find his center of gravity with it on. He will lean to one side and balance on one leg for a minute before correcting himself and standing back up. Another reason I try not to put too much stuff in it.
Leopold loves carrying his own backpack around.
He gets to feel like a ‘big boy’. Honestly, he looks too grown for me to deal with while he has it on!
We took our new backpack to the zoo yesterday for a meet up with some friends. He didn’t want to take it off! I don’t know why I bothered taking our double stroller because Mr. Independent was intent on walking around on his own, wearing his backpack.
I’m sure you will see a lot more of this backpack in the future! It’s so photogenic, right?! Make sure you give OliveKids a follow and check out this and their other awesome and fun prints!
